Second 1 Repunched Down, Web-Book Plate Coin, Gerry Fortin Reference Collection. A very scarce 1871 die pairing with repunching noted above the top of the second 1 digit in the date. Actually, this is the example seen during decades of research and also operating GFRC. This example has been dipped with secondary gold toning beginning to form. A unique piece to some extent and fairly priced for what it is. The plate coin within the LIberty Seated dime die variety online reference and purchased November 1993 from Jason Carter. This lot ships in its original cardboard 2x2 with Fortin notes.

Scarce Proof Strike, Misplaced 2 Digit in Base, Greer Plate Coin, Original Surfaces, Ancient Rim Filiing, Gerry Fortin Reference Collection. Brian Greer plate coin. The 1872 F-109 and F-109a die varieties features a misplaced 2 digit in base. F-109 catalogs the very scarce proof strike while F-109a captures subsequent circulation strikes. This variety was discovered by Kam Ahwash, as a proof strike, and first listed by Greer. It is further listed as part of the Top 100 Varieties set. The offered example was purchased directly from Brian Greer during December 1992 and has remained in raw condition in my collection until recent grading. A no question proof strike that would grade PF62. However, there is an ancient rim filing below the date that is completely toned over and was not noticed until the piece came back with a PCGS Details grade. Housed in PCGS Gen 6.0 holder with Rim Damage, AU Details. The 1872 F-109 plate coin at The Definitive Resource for Liberty Seated Dime Variety Collectors commonly known as the Seated Dime web-book. The 1872 F-109 variety is also listed in the Top 100 Varieties set. Definitely a piece of numismatic history regardless of the ancient rim filing.

Small Block S, Gerry Fortin Reference Collection. The crusty original 1877-S F-106 dime was purchased April 1992 and became the die variety reference piece until being later upgraded. This piece has been hanging out in the bank box and needs a new home. This dime ships in its original cardboard 2x2 with Fortin notes.

Massive Reverse Die Cud, Discovery Piece, Future Web-Book Plate Coin, Gerry Fortin Reference Collection. Residing in the Fortin bank box is this 1891-O dime with massive reverse cuds that are not documented in the Liberty Seated dime die variety online reference. The obverse die cracks through STATES into Liberty's head suggest the obverse die is the F-107 pairing with the O/Horizontal O reverse. On this example the mintmark is partial and plate very high in between the ribbon ends, a position that is unseen to date. Now this example appears with massive retained cuds on the lower left wreath. Surfaces are 100% original and covered with a thick crusty patination. I owe it to the Liberty Seated dime community to get this piece posted in the web-book as F-133. Ideal for the terminal die state collector.
